Air Monitoring Update

  • As part of the Reclamation Process, SPS is removing a number of industrial presses that create fastener products from the building.  One of the air monitors upwind of the building registered elevated PM2.5 particulate matter for a short period of time on March 19th.  No other monitors – either adjacent to the building or in the community – registered a high reading.  SPS believes the high reading was related to trucks and equipment being used in the process.  There were no detections of H2S, HCN, or %LEL at any air monitoring station.
  • The Reclamation process remains underway, and SPS is developing its plan for future demolition work at the site. Information will be shared on SPSupdates.com to inform the community prior to beginning the demolition process.
  • If you have debris in your yard or would like to be added to the list for roof and gutter inspection/cleaning, please submit a request with your contact information and address through the Contact section.
  • Air and water monitoring continues. SPS still has 15 air monitors in place. Six monitors circle the plant itself; the remainder are placed in the surrounding communities.
  • For your safety, please remain outside the fenced area surrounding the property. Only authorized people should try to access the property/building. Thank you.
