Public Statement
SPS Technologies continues to assess the extent of the damage from the major fire that broke out at our fastener manufacturing plant in Abington Township last Monday evening. Thankfully, our team members working at the time of the fire are safe and well.
We truly appreciate the efforts of the emergency services and first responders, who ensured that every person on the scene was safely evacuated and addressed the fire, as well as the messages of support from the community that we’ve been a part of for more than 120 years.
We are committed to protecting the health and safety of the community and working to understand the extent of the damage and its impact. We understand that there’s concern about the chemicals stored on site. We just received access to the site today, and we do know that the main chemical storage area was not impacted by the fire. We are working with the appropriate resources to remove the chemicals from the site today. Our investigation continues, and we will provide updates as available.
As the authorities have noted, air and water quality levels are at safe levels. SPS has placed its own air quality monitoring stations and will continue to monitor and communicate the results to regulatory authorities for the foreseeable future.
Again, we are working to understand the extent of the damage and its impact on our business, as well as our path forward. We appreciate everyone’s support and understanding as we work through the process.
