SPS Fire Updates

On Monday, February 17, 2025, SPS Technologies experienced a major fire that broke out at our fastener manufacturing operation in Abington Township. Thankfully, our team members working at the time of the fire are safe and well.

Update: Highland Ave. To Intermittently Close beginning Aug. 18th

Highland Avenue will be intermittently closed during the week of August 18th, rather than the originally planned two-week full closure. During this time, the demolition contractor will safely remove the buildings and structures along the street. SPS’s contractor will work to complete the project as efficiently as possible to minimize disruptions.

Community and Residential Testing Results Posted

Based on testing performed by TRC, an environmental testing company, at community and residential sites, there is no discernible impact from the SPS Technologies fire.  Please visit the Testing Results section to learn more and view the complete report.

On Monday, April 28, 2025, at approximately 8:00 am, Highland Avenue will reopen to traffic between Mt Carmel Ave. and Wharton Rd. Moving forward, from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., SPS Technologies will employ flaggers when necessary to allow movement of materials across Highland Avenue.
